Introduction: HI! My Name is...

Hi Everyone! My name is Baylee Shipman. I am a senior human relations major, so I will be graduating in May 2016. I feel so close yet so far away from graduating, but I cannot wait it is exciting to me to think this 4 year journey is finally going to come to an end. When I started in 2012 I was not sure if I was going to be able to do it in 4 years, but here I am today, knowing I can do whatever I set my heart to.

I am taking 15 hours this semester, and all of them are online course. This summer I moved in with my boyfriend who is in the Air Force in Hampton, Virginia, which is Langley Air Force Base. Being able to take online classes has made it possible for me to move here, at least till the spring time when I actually have to go back to the class room. I love taking online classes, I feel I am more involved in what I am learning and I actually learn something instead of sitting through a bunch of lectures and then studying the material that may or may not have been covered in the lecture. Since moving here I love to go to the beach, we have one about 10 minutes away, or Virginia Beach is about 30-45 minutes away depending on the traffic in the tunnel. Virginia Beach is really nice, especially the board walk, I love spending days and nights there just taking in everything. I do not know many people around here so I do a lot of projects around the house, as well as watch A LOT of Netflix. My favorite series are Orange Is The New Black, One Tree Hill, Gossip Girl, Friday Night Lights (the TV series), and a few more. I enjoy getting to spend time with my boyfriend more than anything, after having spent over a year of our relationship apart as he was deployed and I was in school. Recently he got put on mids which is basically the 3rd shift 11pm -7am, so most of the time I will be posting during the middle of the night for most people, but it is my day for me and is taking a whole lot of getting used to, but I am getting there.

I am looking forward to getting to know everyone!

  1. Oh, this is great, Baylee: here I was thinking you had had to leave Langley at the end of the summer to come back to Norman... but you are still there! Fantastic! I am always so happy when online classes allow people that kind of freedom to be where they want/need to be. That's been the case here for me too, since we are taking care of my husband's very elderly father-in-law here in North Carolina, not all that far from where you are living (he just had some heart surgery last week... but we were here to help out with all of that). Anyway, I hope you will have fun with the class and, as you have probably started to figure out by now, I am really happy if people can connect to each other in this class, through their blogs, stories, all of that. I am looking forward to getting to know everyone too!

  2. Hi Baylee! What a great introduction! I had never thought about completely taking a semester of online classes so that I could physically be in another place! How long have you and your boyfriend been dating? Relocating due to romantic interests is very exciting! Also exciting that you are almost graduated with your human relations major...I look forward to getting to know you better through this class!

    1. We have been together for about a year and a half, but were best friends for a couple years before we started dating. It has been a long ride that is for sure, but a fun one!

  3. Baylee, what an interesting story! I am jealous that you are taking a whole semester online. I always wish I can roll out of bed and go to class but doing online gives you that liberty to do just that! It definitely takes a lot of discipline to apply yourself to do the work needed to make sure you stay up with your classes but I am sure that you will do just great! It is so nice and refreshing to see people take risks in the name of love. Real relationships are hard to come by with the lack of commitment found in the generations today. I do not know your story but all I have to say is keep fighting for what you love and want. Things that are of value don't come by easy! I wish you the very best in this semester and beyond! GO CLASS OF 2016! Can't wait to be done :)

  5. Hi Baylee! It is so nice that you and your boyfriend get to be together for the semester. I'm glad OU has online options. It also doesn't hurt that its right by the beach either. Please thank him for his service for us. I have been binge watching netflix as well but I still need to catch up on Orange is the New Black. Good luck on your last year and soak up all the beach time while you can!

  6. Hello Baylee! Wow, you definitely have a unique introduction here! I love online classes like you, but I am only in 2 of them, not 5 :) best of luck to you! I have some family Virginia and I have been there a couple of times. How do you like it compared to Oklahoma? Also, I believe we are Netflix soulmates because you mentioned all of my favorite shows! I also really love Scandal, so maybe check that one out if you're looking for something new! I'm from Colorado, but I really do love the beach so I am jealous that you have access while we are landlocked here in Norman!

    1. Compared to Oklahoma I love it! There is so much more to do here, but I probably like it so much because I was stuck in Oklahoma for 21 years. Many people have told me I need to watch scandal, so I think that will be my next series to start. Good luck this semester!

  7. Hey Baylee!
That is so cool that you can live with your boyfriend at the beach but still be enrolled in OU courses especially if you're that close to the beach, too! I am also a senior and I'll be graduating in May but I still have a few more years of grad school ahead of me. It's so great that you and your boyfriend could make the long distance relationship work for a long time because that definitely takes a strong relationship. I, too, love Netflix and I watch it everyday! My favorite shows are New Girl, Friends, and That 70's Show. Have so much fun this semester in Virginia and good luck with your online classes!

  8. I am envious of your living arrangements! What I would give to be so close to a beach. I always love finding people that love Netflix, especially as much as I do, and we have the same shows in common. I'm always surprised when someone says they love online classes. I absolutely hate online, this one really isn't that bad, but my past ones have been a nightmare. Good luck with your studies! I'm looking like a 5th year senior, which is fine but I'm ready to get out!

  9. Hi Baylee!
I love Virginia. That's so awesome that you get to live there but still be part of OU. I'm in the same boat when you say you can't believe you're a senior. I am too and I can't believe that after this school year I won't be in school anymore. It feels so weird and I don't know if I'm ready for the real world yet!! Haha. Good luck this year :)

  10. Hey Baylee!

I'm also a senior. It's so nice to almost be done! I'm impressed that you can do so many online classes. I don't have that kind of motivation! I love Netflix too. My favorite shows are Parks & Rec and The Office. It's so nice that you live close to the beach! I'm definitely jealous. I hope your semester goes well!

  11. Hi Baylee it is very nice to meet you.
Wow moving all the way to Virginia that a pretty big change from Oklahoma it must be nice that you can still take classes while being so far away. I wish i could live that close to a beach that would be so much fun. I am glad that you two will get to spend some time together now i cant imagine how hard that must have been being so far apart.

  12. Hello Baylee it is nice to meet you.
I am so jealous that you are taking your classes online for OU while getting to enjoy the beach! I wish I could get away with something like that, but science majors do not get much of a selection of online courses. How do you like the Air Force life? I am currently applying for the Air Force Health Professions Scholarship Program so that I can have medical school paid for. I have friends in the Air Force that love it. How about yourself?

    1. I think the Air Force is great! The people that I have met so far have been wonderful, and since we don't not have any family around they have become family. It is cool getting to meet so many different people from so many different places.

  13. Hi!

That's so great that you're able to take these courses online so you can be with your boyfriend. I was in the Navy and we used to always make fun of the Air Force - we called them the "chair force" - but it's all in good fun. My grandfather was in the Air Force and served in Korea.

How is the beach out there? I miss the ocean so much! It's the only bad thing about living in Oklahoma, in my opinion. It's awesome that you're having such a great time out there!

    1. Haha a lot of our friends are in the Marines and they give him crap all the time about it being the chair force. He is a crew chief for F-22s so no chairs for him. The beach here is beautiful, I love going to the boardwalk in Virginia Beach because there is so much stuff to look at and to do.

  14. Hello Baylee! Pretty cool that you take classes at OU all the way in Virginia! I think it’s beneficial that you can work at your own pace with online classes. We share several Netflix addictions! I’ve probably watched the seasons 1-6 of one tree hill about 5 times. I’ve watched the entire show all the way through once. I was pretty upset when they took my favorite people off! I also like Friday night lights and OITNB. Good luck with your classes!

  15. Hi Baylee! An early congratulations on graduating this coming spring. I completely understand how excited you are to be finishing up school and taking it to the next level in life!

I am soo jealous that you get to be a full time student yet live in VA and get to enjoy the beach at the same time. I also agree that online classes give you a greater sense of autonomy to stimulate learning! Good luck for the rest of this semester and for your next one! :)

  16. That’s really awesome that you managed to get all online classes and moved out of state for the semester. I’ve been trying to do that and work full time but it’s really hard. Its nice that you have one more semester left, I do too and it feels unreal that we have to start applying for jobs soon. I hope you find that job you strive for.

  17. Hi Baylee!
You know I gotta ask, how is the weather over there? It is just starting to look like fall here. That is really neat that you are taking online courses and hanging out with your guy and getting to experience life in a new and wonderful place. Congrats on being in your senior year. Good luck in all your courses, and in all you do in life.

  18. Hi, Baylee. It has been nice reading about you and what you are doing now. I've never heard of anyone actually taking an entire semester online but I'm sure it's been very nice to be able to spend time with your boyfriend while staying in school. I'll have another year after this so I may look into doing that if it is possible. It was nice to meet you and good luck on your future.
